In the 70's as an experiment, people killed the alpha males in several troops. As soon as another alpha raised up it head, they kill it too. The troop survived for the first few years, but in time they either left the troop or died from attacks from other troops. All this concluded was that alpha males were necessary for the troop. Duh. I wonder how much money was spent on that?
