Fake Anime Fans?

I watched a lot of videos talking about fake anime fans and I disagreed with most of them. One of them that I agreed with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mAK9qIvSZ0. Anyways, Something that all the fake anime fan rants that everyone mention in their videos is that you should not care about what other people think, which is good advice.
From what I see the "fake" anime fans that everyone keeps referring to are usually minors. Which would make sense since teenagers go through a period in their lives where they just want to fit in. Its completely natural. The problem is that anime/manga is somewhat frowned upon. I dont really see why, but thats just the way things are.
I see why some youtubers are frustrated with closet anime fans. Because the more people who come out and say they are anime fans the more acceptable society will be towards the anime community; strength in numbers. But thats not really happening. @ChocolateTheif This was a controversial topic about a year ago. It may not make sense if you didn't watch all the other videos people were posting back then. But depending on where you live, liking anime/manga may not be socially acceptable.

i always let people know i liked anime in my high school the "cool crowd" drank all night every night had sex with everyone and honestly they were dull every story "i got drunk and slept with a girl who has 20 stds im so cool" like i never wanted that so i never cared about being one of them the way i see it if u dont wanna be my friend cause i like anime well fuck off then i dont need u anyway.

@Warhawk132 thank you! When my family makes fun of me for liking anime I always ask "oh, should i be embarrassed about it? Is it wrong?" Then give them a pissed off look. Usually they back off then.

Hide collections? I am proud of my collections! Hell I've gotten my friends into it, my family, and all thanks to my DVDs, same goes for games, movies, tv, and music...what can I say, I'm a media soak and anime is awesome

That way you can even find friends that like the same things. I made 3 friends start liking anime, and this only happened because they knew that i liked it and i started recommending stuff to them. Then months later i found a friend who already liked, so i didn't have to make her into it.

I agree with you. I'm a sixteen-year-old girl and i really don't care if people know or not that i like anime. I don't hide it anyway, all my friends know that i have this hobbie and they never excluded me for liking this. Some of them do say it's boring or something, but i don't care, and they don't use this to accuse me or so. I would never hide my collection if someone came over to my house, if my wish was to hide it i wouldn't even invite them at first place.

This is a great video. I'm a high school fan who is really into anime and manga and all my best friends are those people who like anime. My rooms covered in anime stuff, I wear anime shirts, I talk about it all the time, I am the vice-president of the anime club. I am a huge fan and I am not embarrassed by admitting I like anime. I try to be friends with every crowd though since I like football and movies and heavy metal and stuff like that. But anime is one of my favorite hobbies.
