  • Yes, "WEEKEND" was seen once a month in "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE"s time period (it began in the fall of 1974), through 1978. Then, NBC decided to "get rid of it" by scheduling it as a wekly prime-time series in early 1979. Naturally, it was too "offbeat" for prime-time, and was soon replaced by Tom Snyder's "PRIME TIME SUNDAY" that fall.

  • @ringtailedfox yep WFBC (now WYFF) in Greenville, SC also used Angry Young Man for a short time..

  • @bhayes06 you are correct -- first time that Lloyd Dobbins and Linda Ellerbee paired up -- they would later reunite on NBC News Overnight .. WEEKEND was later made a prime time show on Sat. but flopped just like most other NBC mag shows before Dateline.

  • TV's original tag-team partners.

  • Did WDIV ever use parts of Styx's "Mr. Roboto" as its newscast theme?

  • WDIV had we're 4 by Frank Gari unlike Boston WBZ had it. Does anyone have the WDIV we're 4 song? WDIV's news music used Fooling Yourself by Styx.

  • lol! I love their news open fanfare at 0:33... Styx - Angry Young Man!

  • Correct me is I'm wrong, but wasn't Weekend a once-a-month replacement for SNL during the late 70s?

  • Where did you find all these clips? They are great!
