A lot of people don't know that Janis sent a birthday gift to John Lennon which was a recorded song of her singing Happy Birthday to him and he got the tape after she died.

Love her. She was bullied by the other kids in school. It is in books about her.

Some statements here seem a little fanciful. Janis had low self esteem. She was a drug addict who went to her hotel room alone, got whacked and passed out. People who know addicts and alkies also know that these people are lonely even in a crowd. I really like Janis' singing but her lifestyle isn't something I'd want (for me or anyone else). I'm sure she would have continued to do well if she'd managed to kick her habits and move on. Too bad she didn't.

I heard they treated her pretty bad at that class reunion. Treated her terrible. I can't think if she came back to Cavett's show and told him about it but I know she was telling someone what happened and it wasn't a warm 'n' fuzzy experience for her.

I'm married into this family. My husband is Janis' cousin. It is true, her high school class was terrible to her, luckily ppl treating her ugly only fueled her to rise above. She was from a VERY baptist family, not ripe conditions for a free spirit. :-) Certain Joplin "qualities" run in the family bloodline and I see that magic in my husband.
