A very bluesy number by the very eclectic Mr. Lamar and Company at a crowded Church, with Bryan Murphy of the Shills guesting on trumpet. The audio came out exceptionally clear here, and the video not so bad either. Shot with a Kodak Zi8/Sony ECM-DS70p stereo mic combo. For more info:

  • I've watched all of your videos for the zi8/ECM-DS70P combo and I want to thank you. I get to do my research and see and hear some great bands.

  • You're welcome. Research can be fun some times ;). It's funny how which venues and which bands easily came out super clear and which had sound problems. I've noticed that the only thing that seems to really rattle the Zi8/Sony combo is too much amplified vocal midrange. Even ear bleeding sound volumes doesn't doesn't seem to bother it much if it's balanced (check the Organ Beats at O'Brien's video I just posted -- that's been the loudest show so far, yet the clarity....)

  • i just watched about 5 of your videos from the past couple of days because i was interested in the performance of the ECM-DS70P. it absolutely shines in this particular video. and the band even more so. really enjoyed this song.

quite an awesome recording for a camera/mic combo that can be had for just over 200 brand new on amazon.

  • Thanks - that's turned out to be a very good combo. I had recorded a full symphony that had the best sound of all, but then had to take the videos down because of "policy." Be sure to get extra KLIC-7004 batteries and a separate charger (Amazon has a charger/2 battery combo for $10.48). Also get a 3.5mm right angle stereo adapter to mount the Sony. The only problem I've had so far with the club shows is occasional vocal distortion at very high midrange volumes, usually around the 640khz area.

  • Amazing. it's like you're plugged into the soundboard. I will eventually get the ECM-DS70P off of Amazon. I had a friened buy a fake by mistake-so buyers beware. Do you play around with the mic gain control in the Zi8? It must be hard to do that without drawing attention to yourself at gigs.

  • Audio is indeed quite clear. No direct audio source was used?
