Hi everyone!
So I have had multiple requests for a video about the U.S Census. So I began to research to get some more specific information about the U.S Census and realized how detailed it really is. So this will be a multi-part series dedicated to the U.S Census.

So this first part of the video includes a brief mini-history lesson as to how the U.S came to be and it gives some general guidelines about the U.S census.

These general guidelines include:
- The first federal census took place in 1790 and a new one is taken every 10 years (or every year ending in a "0")
-Most of the 1890 census was destroyed in a fire, although there is still some images out there.
- Different census years will give you different information.
- There is a 72 year privacy law that makes it so that a census cannot be released to the public until 72 years after the census was taken. This is why the latest census that is released is the 1930 census.

Enjoy and please rate and review! I always enjoy hearing from you guys!

  • how do I make my video sound like yours?? without buzzing staticy sounds.

  • To be honest, I have no idea. I just use my regular camera to make a video file (not a web cam because I don't have one) and maybe that makes all the difference in the world. I am not sure.

  • Good to see some younger people interested in Genealogy. I started when I was 19. Good luck!

  • Thank you so much!

  • Why does the government ask our race / ethnicity?

What do they do with our race / ethnicity data?

  • @fragolegirl2002 use a seperate mic from the camera.

  • I've only watched Part One so far. It's great that young people educate themselves and share the truth.

  • I think your information is great! But it should be more fun and less talkative. the census is kinda a waste of time but it is important. you should make more videos but more fun....please.

  • Thanks for the information! I am going to share it with my second grade class.

  • I look foward to each census. And what year did the word african American, option being added to race block for negro or colored.?I know it must've been recent.

  • All I know is the Government all ready has my information, I am not voluneering it to the census, why not recount my voter registeration 3 times (they done that, beleive it or not) I will tell them for income go to the IRS, for name address race sex height and weight go to the DMV for ethnicity go to Vital Records or consulate which I told DMV what city state I lived in.

  • You know...I understand why some people believe that the census was a waste of money. Now with the 21st century and computers, I think it'll be a lot cheaper. But I still think it is vital and a great resource that is more readily available than many of the records you mentioned (which would also be wonderful to have!). I guess I am a bit biased though because of my genealogy background.
