This scene is an obvious precursor to the work of Quentin Tarantino. Just compare this conversation about The Searchers to scenes discussing Madonna's Like A Virgin in Reservoir Dogs or Elvis' movies in True Romance. The parallels are clear.

I LOVE Harvey Keitel. I fell in love with him as soon as I saw him in Saturn 3!!

This is the first time I saw him acting as a younger man, he IS gorgeous.... :)

only scorsese can make a simple (potentialy boring) conversation this exciting. you can't tell from this clip, only by watching the entire sequence (or movie, while you're at it...). the camera and editing are simply amazing.

This is definetly Scorsese's work. He loves to talk about movies all of the time, and he wrote this, so I'm sure he had his reasons for putting this piece of dialouge in the movie.
