Paxman V12YHA Diesel from HMS Rhyl (F129) in the working section at the Fairford Steam Rally & Show 2009 This was part of a generator set. HMS Rhyl was sunk as a target in 1985
Pt 2 - Stepped off the ladder into 12 inches of diesel. I though we were sinking!!! The duty ME had not closed off the fuel line when he pumped diesel into the local generator fuel tank. THe tank drained out and flooded the store and spaces below the diesel room. OOW thought I was joking when I called the bridge. Good old days?
PT 1 - I remember the row they used to make. Forward diesel room. I remember (i think I do) during night rounds, I went down to the forward Naval store. Climbed down the ladder, righ down in the bilges.
I too was a sailor on HMS Rhyl (Brill) I actually quite regularly paralleled generators when we had TSF (total steam failures) used to keep watch on the generators too. This was all prior to EBD (engineering branch development) i never thought stuff i worked on would end up in a steam fair makes me feel very old!
