La vie de Gainsbourg, du jeune Lucien Ginsburg dans le Paris occupé des années 1940, jusqu'au poète, compositeur et chanteur célébré dans le monde entier.
Le film explore son itinéraire artistique, du jeune homme épris de peinture à la consécration de sa musique dont l'avant-gardisme en a fait une véritable icône de la culture française. Mais aussi la complexité de sa vie adulte à travers ses amours tumultueuses.

    Wow, je vois des commentaires comme quoi le film n'est pas assez serieux, avec des actrices qui ne ressemblent pas assez et un acteur qui ressemblerait trop... Moi j'ai totalement accroché au film. Je pense que trop de gens sont allé le voir en esperant regarder une biographie. Mais non, c'est juste une belle histoire pour rever un peu. J'aurais été decue de voir quelque chose trop serieux. (Et non, la maison n'a pas été repeinte ! C'était une mur artificiel crée pour les besoins du film)
