Coming Home: Military Families Cope With Change features John Mayer, Queen Latifah and Elmo.

This half-hour special tells stories of service members who return home with injuries, visible and invisible, and explores the heroic struggles their families face in discovering a new way of finding a new normal. It salutes the extraordinary courage and strength of these military families and offers the general public a powerful glimpse into what they often must endure. The special will air on PBS on April 1, 2009 at 8PM (check local listings) in conjunction with April as the Month of the Military Child.

  • And I officially wish I still watched Sesame Street.

  • @TrainmasterCurt so even though my husband is not doing the killing, he still gets deployed and if we had kids they would still have to deal with their father being gone for 6 months. This is very hard. ALSO you can be in other innocent such as medical and STILL be killed. My husbands plane gets shot at. Its all very real and possible. Do these kids not deserve such a show to help them? you just have no idea. Its more than jut politics. And again, no one said your kid HAS to watch it.

  • @TrainmasterCurt SO there is always a need to protect what is right and our safety. Hence where these families come in and why such a show is needed. Also just because you are in the military does not mean your a killer (you know how many different jobs there are?) nor does it mean you like being at war. My husband is currently deployed, and we both HATE IT. NO ONE likes it. But he also is a cargo pilot, does not have weapons, usually he carries relief aid and supplies.

  • @TrainmasterCurt And your right, war does kill innocent people. We dont need violence to live and Jesus did preach peace and non violence. But not everyone is a Christian now are they? in fact who we are fighting with currently are Muslim extremists. Extremists being the key word. Your NEVER going to turn them all Christian and well your NEVER going to get them to agree or to keep people from wanting power or revenge.

  • @TrainmasterCurt now thats a bit over board there. This does NOT teach kids to kill, it teaches and helps kids who are in military families how to cope and deal with a serious issue. Im sorry you dont understand there is a need for this or think that your view on the world is the only one. If it bothers you so much then dont let your kids watch it. Simple as that.

  • My kids will be taught pacifism, war kills innocent people, we do not need violence to live, actually quite the opposite. Jesus preached peace and non-violence, what does this teach kids? It's ok to kill?

  • agreed :)
