John McCain
Speech
Orlando, FL 08/01/08
TRANSCRIPT:
JOHN MCCAIN (interrupting): "And by the way, Steve, keep drilling offshore, pal! Thank you!"
[...]
AUDIENCE MEMBER: "[...] You mention offshore [...] And I happened to see on CNN last night, they were talking about this offshore drilling. And that it would be at least 10-plus years before we get any benefit from that. And that only 3 per cent of the oil that we consume would [...] come from the offshore drilling. And I want you to help us with the real benefit of this. [...] As far as us receiving any benefit at the pump [...] that it would close to 10 years before we would receive it [...]"
JOHN MCCAIN: "I don't agree. In fact I met with oil executives just a few days ago in California -- as some call it Cal-i-fornia -- and the fact is that we can, using existing facilities, expand our oil production within months, according to these executives. And the fact that if we go offshore and if we find, as I'm confident we will, additional reserves of oil, that will have a beneficial effect. That is economics: that if you have a greater supply, that it has an effect on the price of whatever it is. And the fact is that in my view and that of oil company executives that I've talked to--the people that actually do it, not those that comment on television, but those that actually do it--we could, in a very short time, have a beneficial effect as we bridge the gap between our dependence on foreign oil and becoming energy independent [...] So I disagree with those experts and I've talked to the actual people that do the work, that are in the business that say within months and certainly within a very short time, we could have additional oil supply for this nation. So we ought to drill now."

If you really wanna talk about socialism (in fact, Stalinism), let't get started. Homeland Security weed out potentially violent dissidents... that's the KGB. They send them to a prison far away from watchful eyes where they are held without a proper trial... that's the gulags. Invasion of significantly weaker countries under the guise of "protection"... that's the Winter War. With the exception of Gitmo, John McCain is all for it. Who's the real 'socialist'?

You don't seem to see that Obama will free up enough money via pharmaceutical patent elimination for everyone to get the same health care that Congress gets. Alan Greenspan (a Republican and legendary economist) himself says this will work. It's just as much socialism as having the Government regulate businesses or social security. There would be no change in our current free market if healthcare were implemented. If everyone has healthcare, the US economy will prosper greatly.

About Russia, you talked to the wrong guy. Medvedev is their Prime minister now, and he said he is not scared of a Cold War, he wouldnt wont one. Georgia isnt so much an allie, they are on the other side of the iron curtain. They want to be part of NATO and that doesnt sit well with Russian imperialists

and what you are talking about is called socialism which isn't what this country was built on. yeah...and oh...all that will do is give us crappy health care. I'm for GOOD health care. the federal government needs to give much of the powers back to the states as intended by the founders of this country.

we can get it down to zero if people get freaking jobs and let us drill. drilling will make more jobs!!!

3swelldogs3: we can get it down to 0 uninsured if we vote for Obama. All he wants to do is eliminate pharmaceutical patents to free up money, among other things (an estimate by Greenspan himself says this will work). This will also lower the cost of pharmaceuticals while not impeding their development.

Some of our greatest presidents have been under the influence... John F Kennedy was on opiates during the Cuban Missile Crisis! Much more serious is what a person does when they're sober... like the time that John McCain said that he wanted to give hot water to dehydrated babies... or the time he supported an earmark that lended $1million to the building of a parking structure in Phoenix... or maybe when he supported Bush on 90% of Bush decisions. Everyone gets drunk, not everyone gets McCain.
