I sat down for about an hour tonight and played for the folks at the Blue Moon Diner here in Fountain Inn, SC. I figured you might enjoy hearing me playing something electric for a change, so here's an example of the basic Buddy Holly sound with my Squier Classic Vibe 50's Stratocaster through a "TransTube" Peavey Rage 158.

  • richie what is the guitar your holding please year.. and made. in.. looks fantastic. and im so pleased you gone for maple neck..and kept it right to buddy holly than rosewood.

  • This is actually a Chinese-made Squier, a relatively newer line ( I think this one was made in 2008 ) called the "50's Classic Vibe." It's probably the nicest "cheap" Stratocaster you can buy, and by far the closest to a 1950's model without paying $1,000 more. It really nails the look and sound of a 1950's era Strat for a price that makes me more comfortable with taking it out and having fun with it. Buddy got his Strat stolen TWICE, and I'd rather not carry around a $1,500 guitar.

  • hi i just got me a strat usa 1984 plus can u tell me how u set urs up tone and the dial the lot to get that sound.

  • Glad to hear you found a Stratocaster! You'd be surprised to know that your Strat Plus was actually made in 1987, but for whatever reason ( this was after the CBS buyout in '85 ) some early Strat Plus models have a serial number starting with E4 which leads people to believe they're a 1984 model. The pickups on that guitar should sound pretty nice (Lace Sensors) and you'd probably find this tone with a lot of mid-range on the amp and using your Strat's middle and bridge pickup's.
