Rep. Barney Frank on ENDA Rule

The House debates the rule for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), H.R. 3685, to be followed by debate on the bill itself. In 30 states, it is currently legal to fire someone simply because of his or her sexual orientation. This bill will prohibit employers, employment agencies and labor unions from using an individual's sexual orientation as the basis for employment decisions, such as hiring, firing, promotion or compensation. The bill extends federal employment protections to gay, lesbian, and bisexual workers similar to those already provided to a person based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability. Rep. Barney Frank explains the rule governing debate.

on the surface you're right, but I can almost guarantee that every gay man not hired or transgender person not hired or laid off will easily be able to fall into the arms of this legislation even if it was not the true cause. if this is not a direct quota system will quickly become one. the government has too often gotten involved in questioning the motives of people, which can rarely be proved and is a process which is entirely too ambiguous.

It's not about affirmative action or quotas at all. It's about not being fired for being gay or transgendered. The same would apply to someone being fired for being a straight white male. And treating people equally and with respect is not "appeasing", it's just being civil.

of who? do you think that employers should be held to a gay and transgender quota as well as race, gender and age? what about the normal guys? no matter how qualified they are being fucked by affirmative action and this is only an expansion therein. everyone is so busy trying to appease the minorities of the populace (not to say that's entirely bad), that they ignore the majority as well as the greatest minority of all, the individual.

Barney is nothing but a cancerous tumor on society. To hear him speak of ethics is like Teddy K. talking about ethics. Barney is as much to blame as anyone you who do not believe this do some home work.

But seriously... Fire Barney Frank,Chuck Schumer,etc. How can we have confidence in a bail-out when the ones who say they are trying to fix the problem actually caused the problem.
