Faces Part 1
(also look for Part 2 -5)
The Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band
In my opinion one of the best Bands ever playing a Suite by Francy Boland called "Faces".
Every Musician in the Band gets his solospot and is filmed in a more private environment.
For you all to enjoy.

  • Parts of this film were shown in a memorial to Francy Boland on Sat3 in the summer of 2005. Many thanks to Tobiwan for posting this!! I believe there might be another TV show with this band, part of a series of live tapings from Ronnie Scott's club in the summer of 1969. If you have it please post. Does anyone know when this here was taped? I tend to believe it was early 1970. Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone out there know what exactly happened to Derek Humble? His death was so sudden.

  • What i heard was that Derek got severely injured in a street fight in cologne in 1968, he never fully recovered and died from a stroke 1971.

And sorry i got no exact recording date of this.

  • Fantastica!!!!

  • Lol Art Farmer playing in the section while Watkins solos ... that's where high notes get you - out the front of the band - showcased. Remember 'the' Cat ? And countless others including the man himself Maynard.

  • @tobiwan1977 That's right, he was injured in a mugging i Cologne 1968, and Phil Woods temporarely took over the lead-alto. Humble went back to London, playd a little with amongst others Phil Seaman before he passed 22 February 1971

  • Unique big band. Boland truly was a master arranger.

  • Wait, there were 2 drummers playing at the same time? I'm confused.

  • Free jazz, folks, and I mean FREE. Scoredaddy, myself, and a few other bloggers go to a lot of effort to buy, rip - from LP and CD - scan at the highest quality we can. We do not make available some half-assed crap. You get from us the best available.

  • Why do the germans have all that exclusive stuff. Incredible how rich they were in art production.

  • Faces was released as an LP , who knows if its on CD. Sure Google would turn it up if it exists.
