  • The beginning of the end for the AWA. If I ever become a famous scientist and build a time machine, I'm going to go back in time and hypnotize Verne Gagne to not let Hogan go, no matter what. Wish me luck on that.

  • Godspeed to you my friend.

But should that fail, go back further and club baby Vince Jr like a seal cub.

  • It put the AWA in a spot then when Ventura left. He shot his stuff , they couldn't do the match/storyline as we saw. Greg discussed that Ventura left all his promo's for the month there but never made the match when he left. But in the end , Verne by the late 80's tried to change his business as we saw. He tried bringing in a wild cast of characters ala WWF. But it was such a drastic change it alienated his core customers who saw that in WWF.

  • I loved the AWA but Verne was just not the best business man

  • No matter what the times were changing. Verne would have gone out of business because of how he ran his company. He refused to change with the times. For those who blame Vince McMahon for the death of the territorial system they are right he did destroy it. But he is not solely to blame. Crocket wanted to expand as well. If it wasn't Vince it would have been someone else. Not to mention Gagne screwing Hogan and others on Merchandise percentages and Super Clash 3 where nobody got paid but Verne!

  • @DotDotkins Even Hogan and Vince brought that up on one of Hogan's DVD's.

  • I really really want that blazer.

  • @TheLuscious I love when someone speaks with intelligence. Well done.

  • @UglyMannheim

Or kick Vince Sr. in the balls the night he and his wife conceived Vince Jr.!

  • I miss Ken Resnick. Bring him back home.

  • @bigdenverguy Verne Gagne didn't let Hogan go. Hogan was huge in Japan. Verne wanted half of whatever Hogan made in Japan. Hogan balked probably because he had put himself over in Japan. By that time, Vince Jr. had bought WWF from Vince Sr. and was looking for a new heavy hitter. Enter Hogan who was looking for a new home. The beginning of modern day pro wrestling. So Verne didn't let Hogan go. Hogan quit the AWA. There's a difference.
