I would dish out 100$ if Aqua Genie added a sponge covering on the water intake tube and a biowheel on the water exit.

I agree it may be slightly more dificult with a hood, but there is always a solution if you want to look for it.

seems like a good filtration system with emphasis on biological filtration. Any decent fish keeper knows that biological filtration is the most important long term filtration device. This filter seems to maximize biological filtration that doubles as mechanical, a feature rare in most HOB type filters. To get that kind of bio filtration volume, you usually have to go to canister filters. Seems like an excellent investment for the new aquarium enthusiast.
