You Really Got Me (the Kinks cover)
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
John Paul Jones Arena (UVA), Charlottesville, Virginia
May 5, 2009

The song came during the "stump the band" portion of the show. It's a newer thing, but pretty cool. They leave two songs blank on the set list and choose the songs from the posters people bring to the show.

This was the first of the songs picked that way during the show. Bruce said they were able to play it because of their "100 years of collective bar band experience."

  • Wow, people like the guy at the beginning of the video piss me off. "whoa van halen" van halens version didn't hold a candle to the Kinks.

  • Who is the idiot in the crowd that shouts out, "Yeah! Van Halen!" Sheesh.

  • @DaveG303 Woah... EVH is filthy.

  • @onir27 David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen combined are not a pimple on Ray Davies' ass.

  • @sandsonik

Not that this will put an end to the subject but someone posted this as a possible quote from the producer Talmy: Interestingly, both Jon Lord and Talmy claim Jimmy Page did play on "You Really Got Me". Talmy credits Page for the rhythm guitar[9] and Lord for the solo.[10]

  • God, Bruce, you really butchered a great KinKs song.

  • @BaronM NOT A FACT. Page has always denied playing the song's guitar solo, going so far as to state in a 1977 interview that "I didn't play on 'You Really Got Me' and that's what pisses him (Ray Davies) off." It was a rumor started by jealous musicians who didn't believe anyone as young as Dave could come up with that sound

  • God save the KinKs and the real Boss Raymond Douglas Davies!

  • oh no....Bruce is going to ruin "Better Things"......so over rated.....don't see what the big deal about the "Boss" is.......

  • Looking forward to hearing the song Ray and Bruce recorded for Ray Davies collaboration album due out soon. The kinks song Better Things is one of the songs they recorded in New Jersey last January! Bruce is great but Ray is the greatest songwriter oif all time bar none!
