Pyeongyang residents eat the specialty new year dish in restaurants. The representative dishes for new years day are Tteokguk meaning rice cake soup, and Manduguk, dumpling soup. Gaesong Joraengee Tteokguk, a tasty as well as a beautiful dish to the eye, and Pyeongyang Manduguk, a heartwarming big bowl just like the warmth of Pyeongyang people, are some of North Koreas representative winter dishes for new years day.
