Jerry demonstrates the ironic discovery by students that "ARITHMETIC is just as EASY as ALGEBRA!" He applies the same principles used in the Unique Curriculum of Mortensen Math for teaching Algebra to 6 year olds. The general principles and the "geometry," the "shape" of building a rectangle and applying the specific base ten numbers, allow large multiplication or division problems, with answers in the thousands, in the ten thousands, work just like "factoring" in Algebra. By building a rectangle using the "Arithmetical Factors" of the over distance and the up distance expressed as (10+30) (10+40) the youngest student easily finds answers in the thousands, and ten thousands. The same thing applies to the Mortensen Fraction Curriculum. Students learn about Decimals and Percentages the same way - using the pattern and geometrical shape of "the rectangle". Using the Mortensen Math, iLuvMath COMBO KIT, BASIC OPERATIONS MATERIALS, including THE TEN THOUSAND SQUARE, MULTIPLE TENS KIT, MULTIPLE HUNDREDS KITs, students visualize TENTHS, HUNDREDTHS, THOUSANDTHS in the same way as TENS, HUNDREDS, THOUSANDS.
