Absolute beginner's mind at work. Non-musician feeling my way into the beautiful instrument known as the Halo by Pantheon Steel. I heard my first Hang (pronounced "Hung") drum here on YouTube two and a half years ago and was so captivated by the sound I wanted to play one myself. It took two years but I finally have one. Now to learn how to play it!

  • cool - of a "non-musician" - I think you are very very soon becomming a "real-musician" you have some cool beats and a nice touch of the halo - remember to be gentle - don't push it to hard - a little advice from a dane :)- music really dosen't need to be very technical to be good - some of the most beateful music I ever heard on a halo/hang/didgeridoo:) is the very simpel tunes. Just work on a good structur and a good groove(interesting repetision of a thythm) Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks for all the positive feedback! I've been playing my Halo before each of my Bubble Wonders performances and the audiences have loved it! Everyone wants to know what it is.

  • What scale is it man?

  • it's a Minor Pentatonic 9

  • Nice playing--sounds good! Did you know you were playing a 2 against 3 polyrhythm at the beginning? What kind of "non-musician" are you? ;) With a handpan, everyone's a musician!

  • Thanks for the encouragement everyone! Toddnmd, I'm not sure what a 2 against 3 polyrhythm means but thank you.

  • @bubblejuggler sounds really good. Just try and keep the rythum, although it is hard when experimenting with a new instrument. Thanks man

  • very nice. I have the Ake Bono scale. halo is the best

  • One think i forgot to mention - always work on the technic to make the sound better - thats the key to become REALLY good. If you develop a very skilled technic and sound almost everything you play will sound good on the HALO - just love that instrument man!!!! Keep up you good work - MUSICIAN!!!!!

  • I think it's safe to say that "non-musician" no longer applies! That groove when you flip it upright is totally danceable! :D

    Great works Merlin!!!

  • nice one merlin!!!!!

  • You can count a 3 and also a 2 within the same rhythm. They lay overtop one another. Nice Halo!
