Andrew Bishop, Trumpet
"Live in Concert"

featuring
Genevieve Bishop, Piano
Blanka Bednarz, Violin

Presser Hall Auditorium
Bethany College
November 20, 2001

While I certainly concede that I am no pianist to speak of, you might notice on the program below that I performed a Chopin Nocturne on piano before the Michael Haydn concerto. I did this for two reasons:
1. I wanted to pretend I was a somewhat well-rounded musician, and
2. I needed a chop break after a taxing piece on B-flat and C trumpet respectively.

Not too many trumpeters have the audacity to perform this concerto live, let alone as just one piece on a very demanding full recital. As most of you trumpet folk know, in the first movement this concerto features the highest note ever composed for the classical trumpet: the high A6, the 24th partial on the natural D trumpet. I, of course, love to push the envelope -- for better or for worse -- I thought I'd scale up to it for a second time in a cadenza.

I saw another guy upload a partial video of himself performing this, and he listed his equipment for all the trumpet tech-heads. I suppose I'll do the same: Schilke P5-4, and a regular old Bach 7E mouthpiece.

  • @GLkamina121: It is a piccolo trumpet. Schilike P5-4. Sorry to hear about your friend that looks like me. Poor guy. ;-)

  • great men!!! Did you play on the piccolo ore c Trumpet. Sounds good

  • fhtolsma,

Thank you very much. I performed this on a Schilke P5-4 piccolo trumpet with a Bach 7E mouthpiece.

  • I have a special weak spot for M. Haydn's music, and this piece is a fine example of his dreamy, longing adagios.

Nice playing. Where is the allegro?

  • Thank you. Allegro is youtube video:

  • Lucky guy to have a mum who's a good musician.

Lucky mum to be playing a wonderful Bösendorfer.

I hope everyone appreciated how difficult it is at 3:10 - 3:20.

    Well done, ANdrew.

    (strange cadenza).

  • I can't believe you actually got it. Once piccolo trumpet goes above a G, I consider any sort of sound a success. Plus the rest of it is really beautiful. Really challenging piece, executed well.

  • good sound and phrasing. No matter for the high A,,,,

  • @hotlipsab your not ugly and neither is he, I've been trying to get him to stop saying he's ugly for quite some time. having no luck x( lol

  • @GLkamina121

lol have you tried playing that on a B trumpet?

  • is that a piccolo trumpet?

  • You have a really nice sense of pitch on the picc. Enjoyed listening.

  • Enjoyed listening to this. Nicely played Andrew!! Thank you=)
