A segment of my very first presentation of the research I'm doing for my thesis, given at Ohayocon 2008 in Columbus, Ohio.
My research is focused on the problems existing in the void between published yaoi and reality, drawing from issues in education, politics, and religion. Specifically, I'm interested in the power held by those who read/watch/write/draw yaoi to fill in the gaps the United States public education system leaves when it supposedly educates children about sex and sexuality.
Many thanks (and apologies!) to my dear friends, K and A. They got abused horribly during my panel. ^^

Yaoi is terrible. I know someone who is actually gay (In real life, not in crappy anime) and he finds yaoi offensive. He says that it looks, to him, like the people who enjoy drawing these pictures (meaning Fanpairings like narusasu)are trying to put real gay people on the spot. I mean, drawn homosexual relationships ~ OKAY. But why the pairings? I mean, all there is to it is drawing someone from a random anime in some kind of sexual position with another person from the same anime and gender
As a lesbian, I mind most yuri, but more than that, I mind the ignorance around it. If it--and yaoi--can stir up questions and discussion? More power to it.
