This is just a bit of mucking around.

Johnny Buninyira, son of the great Ganalbingu artist George Milpurrurr, plays didgeridoo whilst Roy Burnyila sings.

This style of song is called Bungalinybungaliny which is a popular form of entertainment throughout Western Arnhem Land, north-central Arnhem Land, and southern Arnhem Land. Johnny introduces other family members: Richard Birrinbirrin (Honey Man in Ten Canoes), Peter Minygululu (another Ten Canoes actor), Philip Guthaykuthay (the sorcerer in Ten Canoes), and Roy Burnyila.

Billy Durbuma plays didgeridoo at the end, demonstrating a little bit more finesse than Johnny.

  • Forgot to say that this is a good bye song, sung in Ganalbingu. "We are going, good bye, we are going, good bye..."

  • That was great, thank you!

  • Very nice! I loved ten canoes.

  • Mucking about and making music on a fine day is a wonderful thing! Thanks for letting me sit in on an Arnhem Land seisiún. It warmed a wintry day over here in the Catskills, USA.
