Not to argue, but what's the difference between "true principle" and human interpretation.

"Not telling the truth… sometimes I feel like I'm at the edge of a cliff looking down at the crashing surf with nowhere to go but down. I used to have these fun dreams when I was so free. But now, as I fly, I'm afraid. They are telephone lines and electrical wires. How painful it would be to run into one. I wonder if I'll ever be free again." Quote from Prayers for Bobby.

Through my coming out I faced people (family, church) calling me evil and perverted daily. It destroyed my faith and quite literally drove me insane. I have feared Christians ever since. It took me a while before I could trust Christians enough to be friends with a Christian. The blind faith of so many Christians destroys so many people. I've hated religion ever since I came out.

I disagree. I was raised to believe that homosexuality was a choice, and a sin (although not to the extreme extent that was shown in this movie), but my belief on that has changed over the years. And it has changed without me giving up my Christian faith. Sometimes people get so caught up in the "rules" and human interpretation that they lose the true principle of Christianity.
"For God so loved the world that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16
