@RaeLimas What is TSS please?

Liberal sided organization, shouldn't surprise anyone.
"American Heritage Girls" is the alternative group you should look into. Our duaghters should grow up with good morals and valuse.

I have a little brother with low functioning autism and it is so offensive when people talk about him like he can control his behavior. He is non verbal too and is also incontinent and it is so unfair when people say "well why don't you spank him for that?" and I just say "you know what? he can't help it."

@ballstothewall1991 I have a sibling w/ austism, too. It's hard to cope with.

As it says within the first 30 seconds of the video, she was already a Girl Scout, in a troop that was presumably working for her. They tried to move her to the special needs troop because they thought "that might be a better fit". They moved her out of a situation she'd adjusted to, into one she hadn't because they thought it might work better. You don't *do* that to someone autistic without a damn good reason. The Girl Scouts are not to blame here. Especially not as an organization.

We have to remember that there are many levels of "special needs" - not every child labeled with that has the same needs. Troop leaders are volunteers. The mom could complete leader training and become a volunteer and start a troop for autistic girls since she knows how to handle these situations. There's never a perfect answer for something like this. =/

Ran out of characters... I don't understand why the GS troop leaders didn't ask the parents if they had, or could look into TSS services for the girl. TSS people are there to help a child calm down and refocus. They focus on JUST ONE person, the child they are assigned to.

@jjbunny79 I completely agree! Perhaps the child could have recieved TSS services?

My son has Aspergers. I find this so sad for two reasons. I understand why the troop leaders were uncomfortable. Screaming and biting are not conducive to having a troop meeting. The parents really should have taken her outside the room and calmed her down. Her behavior could set off other children. I never let my son yell in public. We left restaurants, stores, parks and more until he could calm down. However, it IS a special needs group. GS should train troup leaders for this kind of troop.
@ShilohNative As a sibling to someone born with autism i find your comment very offensive. They went to this meeting because it was for special needs children only. Its sad to see your kind of discrimination is still alive today. Its your kind of ignorance that makes americans look bad. I bet your one of those kind who are scared to let someone with special needs hug you because you think they are "different". In my personal experience its the children who understand and respect special kids.
