It is a government thing , I worked for Honda ( in Spain ) and they offer a 2.2 all aluminum , four cilinder engine that is quieter and more powerful than most of the gasoline engines i have ever seen ..... I believe that Subaru is sufering the same problems ( restrictions on pollution and shit ) ´cause I really can´t imagine one single reason why Subaru wouldn´t want to sell those diesels here in the States . That flatbox diesel is a ral work of art .
@Johntkr "Diesel passenger cars and SUVs are offered by Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, while diesel pickup trucks are available from Chevrolet/GMC, Ford and Dodge." (Edmunds.com) But no diesels from the Orient. So if I want a diesel, I either have to buy a pricey German import, or a BFT (Big Effin' Truck).
@AWDfreak Given how few diesels there are in the US, and the increased sales, you are probably right about Subaru skipping diesel, for now. If Subaru's competition starts to offer diesel vehicles, Subaru may think twice about ignoring the many advantages of diesel. Soon, without diesel, the image of an environmentally responsible company will be become a joke, if not already, without diesel. So, we will see what happens. I'm driving my second Subaru, and only a third if it has diesel.

Hopefully, Subaru realizes that we who want diesel from the Orient represent far more people than what is seen here.

@Mooseboy240 As you probably know, there are numerous diesels by other companies that are sold in the US.

@Johntkr it's the government that doesn't allow diesels to come here

水平対向とはいえデイーゼルでこの低振動は大したものだ。低燃費、低エネルギー消費は時代の要請だがひとつの解決方法ではある。

@Johntkr Sounds like a good idea, but it'll never happen, sales figures just seem to keep going up
