Renee sings this beautiful aria from Handel's Alcina
Her trills are heaven, she sings like a goddess, perhaps even better than in the other production of Alcina she did in Paris (?)

  • fleming isn't well known for her baroque or even bel canto singing, but i swear that even form today's so called specialists you don't get fine singing like this. beautiful trills, second only to sutherland, creamy legato, and an even vocal line well supported from the middle. this version is different from the paris recording because she lightens her voice (a lot!) and sings more trills, but i wouldn't say that this recording is "better". they are both top quality.

In her Paris recording which she did earlier than this production I hear at some spots she is slightly behind the tempo, and in this she is spot on throughout, and her singing is fantastic.

do you think it could have been due to the different conductor?

  • @asdfopera

    Quite possibly

I also think her "Ah! mio cor" is even more amazing in this performance, she sings more daring, holds the low F# for longer and goes to the top notes in a more flashy way.
