Well I have 2 compaqs one of them has the same problem I said to my self it could be the ram I tested it on the other compaq I removed the ram when I turned the computer without ram it showed no signal to monitor and it was making a beep sound I turned the pc of I inserted the ram I turned it back on and it work perfectly maby your problem is the ram if it is you have to buy a new ram remove the old one and insert the new one and turn the pc back on well thats all was I was going to say

its not ur motherboard, have the same problem as u, my motherboard wasent dead, so probly ur prosessor or hard drive
-
re seat ram sometimes works but best bet is to take out of case and put it on a anti static mat our card board and see if it will post-check case for loose screws our our anything metallic that could cause it to short out
-
I think its from the motherboard connector, try using a 24 pin not 20 pin
-
its a compaq mine did the same thing and is still down

@aloneinthedark298 It could be multiple reasons why your computer does not work either its your video card is toasted. Make sure your RAM cards are fit in could be that your OS does not wanna reboot, and it stays in shut down form to protect itself cause apparently thats what happening to my computer when I had all those surges.
