  • what kinda barrel are you using? (including the twist rate and contour)

  • @87johnnyc

It is the factory 26" 1/10 twist barrel

  • .308 winchester is 7.62x51mm not 49. also i have read that the pressure difference is so small that both rounds can be fired in a gun chambered for either or.

  • @USMarineRifleman0311 Bragging about your own accomplishments is commendable if the accomplishments warrant, but bashing other branches of service (you know, your brothers in arms) shows a serious lack of discipline and respect.

  • When I was a Marine, we qualified annually with the M-16 shooting from 200, 300, and 500 yard lines. If we had the time, we moved back to 600 and 700 yards and I have seen the .223 round hit bull from that distance....700 yds is pushing it but can be done with an M-16.

The course of fire is similar to competition shoots, with the only difference I see is in rapid fire, military we used 2 magazines with 5 rounds each, civillian uses 2 round then 8 round mags.

  • A .308 in a medium to long barrel with a high twist rate is more than capable of hitting targets in excess of 1,000 yards

  • i agree with cowboy, 308 at 600 yards shouldnt be a surprise. might be pushing it shooting 600 with a 5.56 but it could be done

  • @1lonsumcowboy Dammit that sounds like fun!

  • There was a time I could shoot with peepsights with no problems. Now its with a scope, but I shoot longer ranges. The .308 is a great calibre, but I kinda been cheating on her for a few years, its been with the 6.5x285,7MAG and .300MAG.

What can I say, I guess I am a shooting whore.

  • best marine marksman - shoots regular 800 yds iron sights with a .308...used to shoot 1000 but he's getting old...i can't shoot 600 yds iron sights but its not untold that the gun can easily dispatch targets at that distance.

  • &.62 has a great boattail that allows for a long shot..not like a 50 cal...I used to make hits at a 1000 meters..only a few in my platoon back then could hit it..

  • @Torq11

    granted

self aggrandizing is bad and unprofessional

remeniscent of all those whom we've defeated over the years (same reason why the iraqi rep. army never stood a chance against a professional military)
