I cannot however comment on what other countries codes of practices are and what principles are followed as they all differ and have varying degrees of standards. Certainly in the UK the cremation process is conducted with the utmost dignity, reverence, compassion and respect.
If any one should wish to be present at the committal of the coffin into the cremator inform your funeral director and he can make arrangements for you with the cremation authority to do so. Crematoria in the UK are very open about what happens after the curtains have closed and many even hold open days to help put peoples minds at rest and dispel myths that even now still surround the cremation process.
All crematoria in the UK abide by strict cremation laws. Applicants of a cremation are allowed to witness the reception of the coffin into the cremation chamber or give their consent for other family/representatives of the deceased to do so. However most crematoria only allow two people to view this due to health and safety requirements.
I think it is possible to be able to view cremations in the UK. I'm not sure it is something I could do though, watching someone going in and being burned - although I guess it's no different to watching a Hindu funeral pyre. quite surprised how very little of us there is once we have been burned. Still going to be cremation for me.
Cremation: the triumph of nihilism.

I don't think anyone is allowed to view a cremation in the UK. Except those that work there at the crematorium!
