The thing that most caught my attention was when she said that young people are influenced when they see members of congress arguing. I don't think most young people or middle-aged people can even name their own U.S. representative, much less the people he or she is arguing with. No offense to Jewel. I'm a fan, and she is awesome and fun and smart. It's just that that statement overestimates the knowledge of the average American voter.

My question is this.
Why are celebrities given such clout over people who've studied an issue for years and are highly experienced in the field that that issue addresses?
I'm not saying that she's not smart or dumb. I'm saying that those with the highest qualifications on an issue should be given the most clout.

WE need change, people who will get back to running this country by the constitution and caring that this wealthy country has homeless people while a great percentage are being turned into drug addicts in the name of HEALTH!!
I am only 60 years old and the changes in society just in my lifetime are frightening.

Why should I listen to her rather than an expert in economics, political science, etc?
She's attractive and sings fairly well, but may be an idiot.
