Ticino is a landmark for culture and sport, with events on an international scale: it has the longest season of open air events in Switzerland. This is partly due to the long, warm summer, and also to the full, prestigious calendar of events. Some of these are repeated year after year (the Estival Jazz and Lugano Festival in Lugano; the JazzAscona New Orleans & Classics and the Classical Music Weeks in Ascona, the International Film Festival and the Monn & Stars Music Festival In Locarno), others are improvised and usually one-offs.
