There are two flaws in this conversation:

1) Sex is not a must-have like air, water, and food. Going without sex is not unnatural or odd - it happened in scripture all the time.

2) There is child abuse in a lot of places, and in a lot of different churches. As much as the media would like to pretend otherwise, the Catholic Church is not the only and main location of this stuff. Most priests are kind, celebiate, and faithful.

@Qwertio33 Yes, the US tends to be very anti-Roman Catholic, and thus in the papers the men who abuse children are going to get the headlines. But given the recent Penn State scandal (and there was another similar to it in another state but I forget which) I wonder if people will come out against athletic coaches as much as they do against priests. I doubt it.

@markuz226 Catholics does not necessarily equate with Roman. Anglicans are Catholics, not Protestants, and their clergy can marry. So don't do this: Catholic = Roman or Orthodox. There is a channel here called "Anglican" wherein a priest, Fr. Steve of St. Tim's, has created a video called "Did You Know You're Catholic?" You may want to get elitist about it, but you'd be wrong. Dead wrong.

Actually, I was touched by this commercial. Yes! There are priests who are very true to their vows and have the strength and courage to smile at circumstances that seem to be temptations. We have lots of priests who are blessed with great looks and bodies (they are expected to practice fasting and abstinence plus everyone already knows the benefits of exercise to good health). And they are all real men who can stand up with their remarkable conviction to serve God.

@markuz226 After the vow of ordination if not already married, then no a priest can not marry. I was just telling the person I originaly responed to that you CAN be a married priest in the eastern rite churches, and even in the west biding certain circumstances.

@gtepp031387 Catholic priests of any "rite" can NOT marry. However, married men of the Catholic "rites" (more correctly called "churches") you mentioned can be ordained. It has been a constant tradition of both the Catholic and Orthodox churches to allow some married men to be ordained priests but not allow priests to marry.
