With reference to the forensic examination of fired casings and bullets being used to match them to a firearm,it may well identify the firearm used to fire a certain cartridge/bullet but it doesn't identify who pulled the trigger.The person they find in ownership of the weapon can simply say they bought it/found it etc within the last couple of days and they are back at square one.There is no way they can prove who actually fired it.

Where the hell did they find the vastly obese man dressed as a French soldier?? No army,not even a French one,would employ such a sickeningly fat man.Re-enactment groups with "soldiers" in excess of 20 stone (This man though must be over 30) totally destroy the realism they are trying to portray.The military of any nation wouldn't even stock a uniform in this size anyway,the largest they probably made was a 40" waist.
