@northerbrewer I've read the Communist Manifesto, and given Das Kapital several tries. Though science is one human endeavor that improves on itself with time, and Marx's writings serve as little more then historical artifacts on the way people once thought. In fact Marx's philosophy contributed to many intelligent people actively rejecting many discoveries regarding human nature. Steven Pinker elaborates on this in his book "The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature."

I really don't see how any aspect of Marx's philosophy relates to this song. I don't see a problem with admiring or having interest in the man in the context of the history of philosophy. But in the end his ideas are no more relavent then those of any other philosopher, and in fact much of his theory of history, economics, and class relations was no more the warmed over and secularized eschatology.
