City booster promo film from 1953 featuring beautifully shot scenes of downtown Oakland and surrounding environs. Humorous narrative accompaniment endorsing the industrious qualitites of the city. Brought to you by {Oaklandish}
Yes Belle19700 Oakland was very different. At one time U.C. Bekeley was in Oakland down in Webster Street. A young lady whose last name was dyson was the first black fairyland queen.
Mc Clymonds High school was state champion in basketball ten years straight. John Johnson from Skyline high holds the state record in the high school mile 4:07. Get this: Oakland is the place where Poppin' started (the young people say hip-hop. No SEB no hammer the other half of New York breakin.
I was 3 years old, and living on, I think, Shattuck Ave in Oakland. I never got tired of going to FairyLand. I'm looking at the videos of downtown Oakland, and I don't recognize anything. All I remember is the Paramount, Fox Theatre, Capwells, and the Leamington Hotel. Downtown Oakland has really been built up since I was a kid.
Before hell,the panthers,and the gangs came to Oakland and made it crunk,
