Video footage showing solutions that are working for me and many other Galaxy S users, for improving the Galaxy S GPS navigation experience, in this case, turn-by-turn voice guided car navigation. Tested only with offline navigation programs like iGo,Sygic, Navigon, CoPilot ,etc.
Tomtom and Garmin AFAIK, are not available for Android yet.
Not tested with online nav apps. like Google maps ( wich is not available or not working properly in many countries).
Sorry for my English on video; tough to drive, navigate, deal with video, and concentrate on the english all at the same time.

This "solution" is consisted off:

-A external bluetooth gps receiver ( with a sirfstarIII gps or equivalent)

-Applications: Bluetooth Gps Mouse (tested by me) or Gps Provider (Tested by others)

-The right settings (in Android OS) - see video

Part 2 will show the SGS running navigation software using solely the INTERNAL GPS receiver...

  • So much easier to just have a dedicated GPS unit like a Garmin and use the phone for....uhhh communications. :)

  • @shawnfarand

That depends how smart your phone is.

My smartphone cannot replace my excelent video camera, but it replaced easily my MP3 player and some of my standalone gps devices , which I sold ...and that's smart

  • Is there anything wrong with using Google Maps & Navigation with Voice and Traffic and Local Search here in the USA? I heard your comment but it works really well for me in California (AFAIK) and It is, after all, free. The only possible drawback I can think of is data usage but until November 2012 (at least) I have unlimited data. I think data usage is pretty light anyways if you stay turn off the Satellite Layer and keep off of Street View. Do any other GPS programs have a Street View?

  • @rapskallion

Offboard gps progs like Google Maps dont work for me. specially when I am abroad..

Having a reliable car nav app such as iGo or Sygic Aura with up-to-date onboard maps.

    (making a long story short)

  • where can I get LBStest mode?? tks

  • @RiKKuXd28

On gingerbread, LBStestmode is called...Angry Gps

Search for more info at the XDA-Developers forum

  • Hi, thanks for the video. But can you tell me all the requirements so that we can have this on our phones too?

    1. What application or applications are you using? and how much?

    2. What device / devices needed?

    3. Is this completely offline? No internet connection needed? No GPRS needed?

Thanks, hope to get your reply.
