THOUSAND ANCESTORS WIDE

sun quakes along on the river strong
moon moves on skin in a tidal song
stars in bone are fashioning day and night
liquid antecedents stage our plight
green shoots break up the bedrock stone
fronds unfurl inside their magenta home
raindrops find the seeds in electric cracks
windstorms carve the bark and bend it back
wolf tracks smell in the leather of a forest road
pigeons cry out in the turquoise dome of rome
a widowed boat glides down the lake edge in a fog
the burning bush smogs perfume in a hard fall snow
love makes rounds in the wildest folds of dawn
the nerve in our hearts runs riot on the tip of tongue
arms are buds that grow out of cardiac lore
the mischief making body who's wisdom came to fore
parking on the side of the knowing cell of cells
dancing on the footloose chords of heaven's bells
lips will speak the words to bring us nigh
like eyes that spot a lover broke in fire
