@secret20rose10 What you have to remember is that nowadays, a) there is not much call for flashy kimono and b) modern mass production often means that the older, more detailed hand crafts are becoming more elusive. And silk still costs a fortune to acquire.

@Bethroxwoohoo Not many forgeign geisha... Liza Dolby is, I think, the only Western woman to be a fully fledged Geisha.

@secret20rose10 They are different! totally agree!! I would recommend that you do some more research about it and try to pay attention to the persons "status and position" in society and their mindset in the time period of "The memoirs of a geisha" what the girls are wearing in this video are regular kimonos not flashy ones. Of course what you see in movies are always exaggerated to some extent. the "geishas" from nowadays are totally different than those from the movie.

@secret20rose10 Although Golden's book was a good read, using the book as a point of reference is definitely not encouraged.

The way the fictional Nitta Sayuri describes Kimonos that she wears and see in Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden seems completely opposite what I'm seeing that's not to say that there not pretty just now what I was expecting

@MsMatsumoto1981 and from the edo period and before that. Even prostitues wore very nice kimonos but they have differences that tell you about the person. for example: prostitues wore tied their obi with the not in the front for easy access as opposed to geisha and maiko who tie it in the back. the lenght of the sleves also give away your status as a married or single woman. i advise you read into it and get back at me :D
