I think parodies are as good today as they used to be. The problem is that most people think about the Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer movies when they think about modern parodies and forget about movies like Walk Hard, Hot Fuzz, or Black Dynamite.

@abcdefh1992 Parodies today are ok, it's the send-up genre the comes out yearly that gets tiring. Disaster movie, scary movie, etc. Hot Fuzz was a comedy that paid homage to police dramas, just as Shawn of the dead did to zombie films. They had a plot. The good ones are done with heart. The other ones are done with no inspiration other than to make a quick buck at the expense of what's fashionable at the moment (and there are usually no memorable quotes).

@mofrakker scary movie 1 - 3 was good all other "MOVIE" movies suck and are annoying

@chipseinfeld8 Yah, that's usually what happens. You tend to sacrifice quality for quantity. Instead of concentrating into making one really funny movie, they spread it into several uninspired ones. I think Scary movie 1 started with an original plot (well at least semi-original), but the whole "(insert title here) movie" franchise, like the saw series have worn out. Someone with imagination needs to start over. "Paul" was good.

this is when parodies werent synonymous with cheap quality and corny jokes

@Jahfari1 Yes, now there just expensive and repetitive (plus waaay to much dancing and MTV references). But back then they slowly improved, this was the experiment before Airplane!
