This is true, but if an ant wanted to, it could leave and no one would ever notice it was gone, due to the vast numbers of its brethren (or rather sistren, since most ants are female). The character envies ants because he perceives them to enjoy their society although they can escape, while he cannot escape although he dislikes his society.

An excelent point. weather an ant has the presence of mind to leave the colony or not, u make an excelent point.

Exactly. That's what he fails to realize--an ant can't even grasp the concept of leaving. As much as he dislikes his inability to escape, he still possesses human imagination and intelligence.
