To earn the distinction of Program of the Year, the recipient must demonstrate that its first priority is safety through an ongoing commitment of excellence to the entire community. Please join us in recognizing the epitome of this undertaking, this year's top program, LIFE STAR/Hartford Hospital!

Founded in 1985, the LIFE STAR Program at Hartford Hospital delivers dynamic, innovative, transparent and cooperative approaches to creating an environment where safe transport and cutting edge clinical patient care is the standard. The program received commendable assessments from the FAA after a voluntary invitation to review their operations. In addition, LIFE STAR was the first program to report the utilization of LOFT by HEMS.

LIFE STAR is a member of the New England Air Alliance and operates with members of local air medical transport programs to provide better understanding of regional issues and agreements. Last year, LIFE STAR undertook several initiatives including; the utilization of a common GPS tracking system that enables all programs to see all aircraft in the region, a "Best Operational Practice" agreement, designated primary communication centers responsible for traffic into shared service areas, and real-time information sharing between communications centers.

LIFE STAR is a widely recognized symbol in their community. Last year, their outreach programs touched more than 22,000 people. The staff at LIFE STAR actively participates in the critical care transport industry through leadership roles in groups such as the Air Medical Journal, ASTNA, NAACS (nacks), AMPA (ampa) and NEMSPA (nemspa). Almost all of LIFE STAR's leadership team members have earned their Certified Medical Transport Executive designations.

LIFE STAR's commitment and contribution to the community, safety, quality and performance improvement, state-of-the-art clinical care, progressive management, and leadership strategies make this a stand out program which sets a high bench mark.
