@ATAS987654321 And how r those UAVs performing? Can you send me a link about them? From what I know, no Russian company managed to build a functional UAV, so far. You have to buy UAVs from the Israelis. So then how are those UAVs working?

@StiviGun1 The UAV is already implemented and the army has it since 2004. But that was probably the last upgrade to the "Smerch" system. Idont't think they are going to develop something new for it.

@ATAS987654321 with such sub-munitions. It's just that the Americans r not investing in tank warfare capabilities so much anymore. They r not fighting against any country that has tanks right now, so it would be a complete waste of money 2 spend on such capabilities when they r engaged in a total different war right now.

& BTW, an aircraft would be a much better solution them a rocket, because it has a much bigger range & it can carry much more warheads than a 300 mm rocket.

@ATAS987654321 Yeah, but that UAV release from the rocket is only shown in computer simulation, it's not shown in a real life demonstration, like the other capabilities r. That mean that this capability may be in development but it's not yet implemented on the Smerch.

As 4 that type of anti-tank capability not being valid 4 other systems due 2 range issues, that's not a problem 4 the M270. It's latest rockets, the M30 & M31 have a range of over 60 km. +, they have the ATACMS that can be equipped

As for anti-tank sub-munitions, other systems just don't have the range, AND what other possibilities are there to go for the tanks? Sending in aircraft? But what's better, risking an aircraft or just shooting a volley from 70km range?

@ATAS987654321 Explain how exactly a the UAV is deployed by the Smerch. UAVs r planned 2 be used 2 help the Smerch system acquire its targets, but from what I know, it's not deployed by the vehicle itself.

As 4 anti-tank sub-munitions, yeah, the Smerch is the only MRL that was given this capability. That doesn't mean others can't do it. Maybe they just don't see the need 4 that. Same goes with thermobaric warheads.
