Sockbaby is a three-part no-budget short film directed by Douglas TenNapel, the man best known for works such as Earthworm Jim and The Neverhood; and John Soares, who is best known for co-founding the independent film group WestHavenBrook.
The Christian undertones in Sockbaby are both overt, and thematic. In the opening scene we are introduced to Ronnie Cordova, the protagonist, as he invites his companion, Burger, and the Sockbaby he carries, to join him for a meal.
As they leave to embark on this quest for food, they are immediately threatened by an individual intent on securing the Sockbaby. A Grey by the name of Davis (an allusion to recalled California governor Gray Davis)[1] states "That Sockbaby is a sockbaby-Jesus, sock-saviour to the sock-people."
