Drum Performance: 2007 Don Hubbad Field Music School

This is a performance by several of the drummers and drum instructor David Loyal for the closing performance of the Don Hubbard Field Music School.

The Don Hubbard Field Music School is maintained to support and disseminate excellence in field music of the Civil War era as a part of public education in a critical part of America's past. This event will replicate two days in the life of a Field Musician in training at the Civil War era Field Music School held at Governors Island, NY.

The field music school is a very intense weekend of training in the instrument of your choice (Fife, Drum, or Bugle) with nationally renowned top caliber Music Instructors. Also included will be training in the history and proper use of Field Musicians in camp and in battle, Customs of Service, drill and formations, as well as correct uniforms and equipment. Musical training will include the learning of both Camp Duty beats, tunes, and calls as well as battlefield signals, marching beats, and many tunes. The schedule will encompass non-stop activities for the weekend, and will be fully regulated by bugle, drum & fife, as was the real school.

Attendance is open to any beginner, novice, intermediate, or advanced Field Musician with his own instrument and complete Civil War uniform, ages 11 and up. Females are welcome if they can accurately portray a male civil war soldier and disguise their gender accordingly. You will be "camped" (in barracks) in a real restored Civil War fort, Fort Delaware, which was a major
seacoast defense as well as a large Confederate POW camp.
