On October 24, 2005 Hurricane Wilma bounced off the island of Cozumel, Mexico and made her way straight toward the west coast of Florida. This footage was taken after her "eye" had already passed over us in Boca Raton, and her stronger "backside" hit us. The object that you see flying through the air, and hitting the house (listen for the thud when it hits) is a back patio awning that had ripped off the roof of the next-door neighbor. The awning piece strikes the house and breaks in half; with the remaining door-sized piece soon to be sent 40+ feet into the air, and onto the next street over.
i was in downtown cancun when this happened and we had to hide out in a school for 5 days :)
