This piece is intended to show off the Sampolin, an instrument I created that plays audio samples. Nate Bliton joins me on his own creation, the Bovalve. Both instruments use Arduino-compatible microcontrollers to interface with Puredata on our laptops.

If you're curious about how the Sampolin works, check out this demo video: http://youtu.be/USk2aYslbvs

  • I'm scared to ask, but... how much would a sampolin set me back?

  • @theroyalus I designed and built it for a little over $100 plus a lot of trial and error and help from my friends.

  • this video is seriously badass. i NEVER comment on these things, but this is like a variation of laurie andersons tape bow but way fucking cooler. i'm totally jealous!

  • @Vaginatron Thanks!

  • This is SO much cooler than I thought it would be! BRAVO!!!!

  • @timothyrosenberg Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. There are several controls on the Sampolin that don't yet have any function in the software. It's only going to get better.

  • I think I lack the skill to make one, but it sure looks like it'd be seriously fun to play. Kudos to you on a brilliant invention.
