A project for manufacturing class in school. I am making a model clay pigeon for prizes at a skeet shooting club.
The machine is an EMCO 155 live tooling turret late, and the material is 2" round 6061 aluminum.
The first step in the manufacturing process is using a large Alpha lathe with CNC stops to bore/face out the back side of the pigeon. I found a brazed carbide tool and hand ground it on a tool and cutter grinder so I could cut off the back and front side the way my program needed. Because the chuck is so large on the Alpha I was able to bar-feed my 2" stock and do the boring with the full length so as not to waste stock. after boring, I use a horizontal bandsaw to cut off the part for the live Tooling machine.
The second step is live tooling program in this movie.
The first tool roughs the outer profile, and then comes back for a finish pass with a higher spindle speed.
The second tool, I hand ground with a surface grinder because it had the finest wheel in the shop and I wanted a good finish.
The tool needed a 45 degree angle on the front, but be able to bore with clearance, and fit into a tool holder that cannot adjust for height. A tough tool to make, especially because I didn't have any extra boring bars to grind up.
The last tool is a #2 center drill. I was supposed to use a 1/16 ball endmill, but a #2 is almost the same size and much stronger so I wouldn't use up a bunch of endmills.
There are two tool paths back to back, one uses a peck, which it does not need, and the second drills in one shot.
I have a solidworks model, and a mastercam X3 file with the toolpath that is used in the video.
I don't have a copy of the toolpath in G&M code form, it's still on the machine at school and I will try and get it next time I swing by there.
Email me at wilddoogyplumb@gmail(dot)com and I will send along the two files I have.

Hey thanks for the comment.
Unfortunately I did this for a school project and now that I have graduated the program I don't have assess to the machines anymore.
I did keep the Solidworks model and the Mastercam file as well as the NC code. if you would be interested in any of those i would be happy to send them to you.
