@doobeedoo58 no he didnt... he wrote the song as if he was a prisoner. just like he wrote folsom prison blues as if he was a prisoner. the first time he was ever in San Quentin was when he performed there. and he was never incarcerated there. you sir are truly a moron.

Thats the beauty of music guys, and like beauty, its in the eye (ear) of the beholder. No matter how good a piece of music is someone somewhere will dislike. BTW for the record I think this a great song ;)

@protokid1516 uuummm...he did spend some time in San Quentin...he even sang about that joyous time..the song begins with the line..."san quention I hate every inch of you..." So yeah...about his unfortunate incarceration...read about it in People Magazine!

@doobeedoo58 uhhhh johnny cash was never incarcerated for an extended period of time. never spent more then a night in jail on a few occasions. you obviously aren't a fan.
