Part 1 : President Ahmadinejad at Columbia University

The vile taunts and insults that Mr. Bollinger, the President of the University of Columbia, regurgitated while introducing President Ahmadinejad just goes to show Mr. Bollinger's lack of character. President Ahmadinejad was invited to deliver a speech at the University of Columbia in New York, while he was there for the annual UN general meeting. Mr Bollinger's diatribe can only be characterized as childish, immature, and uncivilzed.

President Ahmadinejad's speech in contrast was measured and he composed himself throughout the barrage of non-sensical innuendo thrown at him. He proved yet again the humility and cultured manners of the Iranian people. Even the most uneducated and barbaric people treat their invited guests with respect; Mr. Bollinger could certainly use some lessons on civility and common sense courtesy.

I have never witnessed such insults and adhominem attacks being spewed by the president of a university. Makes me wonder if the academia in US universities is of such calibre, does it really get worse when it comes to common folks?

I can't believe you dont find it oddly disturbing that a president of a high ranking institute of learning begins his introduction to a speech by degrading the hell out of an INVITED speaker no matter who he/she happens to be. why the hell invite him if he doesn't have the guts to assume his act.and beleive ahmadenjad may present vary abvious counter arguments as on the sentence about erasing the state of israel with has been taken out of contest but he doesn't even bother to he doesn t care for the approbation of the us government or people on an other there indeed many points subject to debate in iran

@farz1313 Yes, facts. There are no doubts that every single word out of Mr. Bollinger's mouth are an expression of what is called 'western values', among them democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of thought & finally, my favourite, the pursuit of happiness.

Why do you think it was disrespectful?? Free speech involves being open to critical thinking and reasoning.

Finally, as food for thought, I ask: would it be possible for this event to happen anywhere in the Middle East (aside of Israel)?
